This weekend three Australian boxers will be showcasing their boxing skills in the bright lights of America.
Australia’s IBF Middleweight World champion Daniel Geale headlines a show in Atlantic City Saturday night (Sunday in Australia). Geale, 29W (15kos) 1L will fight Englishman Darren Barker, 25W (16kos) 1L. Barker is a Commonwealth and European champion and his sole loss came at the hands of the number one ranked Middleweight in the world, Sergio Martinez. Geale’s last title defence was a shutout performance in January against fellow Australian and the only man who holds a victory against Geale, Anthony Mundine. This fight between two of the division’s top fighters can be ordered on Main Event PPV.
Undefeated Featherweight Joel Brunker 26W (15kos) will be on the undercard to Daniel Geale v Darren Barker. Brunker is fighting former IBO World title holder Mike Oliver. Oliver is no stranger to Australian fighters having gone down by majority decision in his last bout against Australian Billy Dib. Brunker’s last venture to America was a success, having scored a 1st round KO and he will be looking to repeat this impressive performance and move past his American opponent to open some bigger fights with the top tier fighters of the division.
Also 21 year old Brisbane boxer Tyson Maher will be making his professional debut in Essington Pennsylvania on Thursday (Friday in Australia). The Light Welterweight has been living and training in the United States in the lead up to this fight and hopes to get past his opponent Josue Rivera before returning home for a bout on the Gold Coast next month.
