Anthony Mundine v Gunnar Jackson

mun v jacksonAnthony Mundine and third choice opponent Gunnar Jackson have weighed in ahead of tonight’s MainEvent PPV battle at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

It has been an interrupted lead up to say the least. With original opponent Carson Jones withdrawing after suffering influenza and replacement opponent Billy Lyell also pulling out, its surprising tomorrow nights show will even go ahead.

With Jackson, a stepping in as a late replacement with just 1 weeks notice, it was agreed upon the 10 round bout will be fought at Catchweight.

Mundine, now ranked at 4 by the WBA at 154lbs, has hopes to secure an opportunity with WBA titlist Erislandy Lara. He said “Last year, I had 10 months between fights. I was chasing the big fights, I was chasing the dream. but when you do that, yours stalling your momentum. I need to build back up again.”

Jackson, a drain layer by trade, said, “I thank Anthony for the opportunity. I am confident I will last the 10 rounds.”

The undercard will see Rugby union superstar Quade Cooper take to the ring for his second professional fight against 40 year old Warren Tresidder.

Undefeated stable mate of Mundine, Renold Quinlan (6-0, 3KOs) will take on the durable Joel Casey (15-11-3, 10KOs) in a Super Middleweight contest over 8 rounds.

2012 Olympian Cameron Hammond (6-0, 3KOs) will feature in a 6 round contest.

David Aloua, Billel Dib, George Kambosos Jr and Bilal Akkaway will also all be in action.
