The main event is a much anticipated rematch between Jeff Horn (6-0-1, 5KOs) and Rivan Cesaire (11-4-1, 3KOs) where the vacant WBO Oriental Welterweight title will be up for grabs.
When these two met in August of last year, the bout was unfortunately stopped after just 3 rounds of action due to a cut received by Cesaire after an accidental head clash. The bout was called a Technical Draw and rematch has been expected to take place ever since.
After the unfortunate bout with Cesaire, 2012 Olympian Horn has gone on to establish himself as one of the country’s most promising prospects. His devastating 1st round knockout over Samuel Colomban, in which he claimed the Australian title, also earned him 2013 Knockout of the Year honours. He also scored a decision victory over two time world title challenger and long time contender Naoufel Ben Rabeh.
Cesaire has had just one bout since the Horn outing, it was a very close and disputed decision loss to former IBO champion Lenny Zappavigna.
In the semi main event, Heavyweight Bowie Tupou (23-3, 16KOs) collides with American Nick Guivas (7-1-2, 5KOs) over 8 rounds.
Tupou recently returned from a long stint in the United States where he was based between 2007 and 2012, notching up 16 bouts. Unfortunately he suffered defeat in back to back matches at the end of 2012. The Tongan born Australian has since returned to the winners circle when he scored a victory on the Gold Coast in December.
Horn’s fellow 2012 Olympian and top Australian prospect Damien Hooper (6-0, 6KOs) also features when he takes on South Korea’s Young-Don Um (5-1, 2KOs) over 6 rounds at Light Heavyweight.
Hooper had a perfect first year as a professional, entering the ring 6 times with none of his opponents to hear the final bell. He captured the WBC Youth Silver title along the way.
Another 6 round contest takes place when Matt Casoult (3-0, 1KO) faces former Queensland champion Mark Ramirez (5-6-1, 1KO).
Heavyweights Willie Nasio (1-0, 1KO) and Anthony Fowler (4-5, 2KOs) also clash, as well as Marco Monarco making his debut against James Porter (1-2).
